Marios started fishing the Lionfish long time ago, when its commercial value was close to zero.
Over the years the demand for this species has increased, gaining good commercial value.
Today, lionfish appears on the menu of many fish restaurants 🍽 in Cyprus.
Behind the net: Marios Kyprianou has been fishing since he was a child but started fishing professionally 7 years ago 🎣.
His family runs a fish tavern in Pervolia 🇨🇾, where they serve fresh, locally caught fish prepared following traditional recipes.
Invasive alien species are a threat to the local ecosystem. However, in the Mediterranean the proliferation of lionfish was turned into a tasty opportunity.
