A shift in power is happening in Brussels. Vestager is applying for the EIB, Timmermans going to stand in Dutch elections. Those are two big, pro-globalisation, open-economy names potentially leaving the scene.
The result: French trade/globalisation-sceptic voices will be louder

Add to Timmermans and Vestager's departure Rutte's exit, and I fear the EU will deepen its colbertist turn.
Consequences:
- Fragmentation of the Single Market, with the proliferation of state aid
- Further decline in innovation and growth.

Big news. Meta's new LLM continues down the open source path. This may allow for the creation of an eco system of small firms catering to the individual needs of the different industries, and avoid hold up by Microsoft and Google. Well done.

It turns out that our King is really elegant. I learned much more than I could ever imagine about how to wear a suit from this thread.

The campaign against the nomination of @ProfFionasm to Chief Economist of @EU_Competition is unjustified, and its nationalist overtones are deeply troubling. My colleague @chrisbruegel explains why:

Agree with @spignal: it is in Europe where Rutte's free market liberalism (sadly, a diminished force post Brexit in the EU) will be most missed.

Bruxelles ma belle! We have already been at each other's throats for 48 hours now due to the appointment of an American as chief economist of DG Competition. Anyone outside of Brussels would not believe it. A true tour de force of the "eurobubble" 🤷‍♂️

Very much in agreement with @CompetitionProf views on the silly controversy over @ProfFionasm appointment. Why then the controversy? Her appointment is being used politically to weaken @vestager, simply because competition is no longer popular in some countries (if it ever was).
