First discussion with @EP_Justice on the proposed Directive on criminalisation of the violation of EU restrictive measures. Violations of 🇪🇺 sanctions, including their circumvention, should be criminalized effectively in all Member States. We need swift progress on this file.

As I’ve explained to Ministers, we are currently working on this option together with @Eurojust and the #JIT to help Ukrainians coordinate the collection of evidence. These discussions including on accountability mechanisms such as a special tribunal will continue with Ukraine.

While there are legal constraints to prosecuting the crime of aggression, we must ensure that those crimes will not go unpunished.🇪🇺 wants to play a leading role in ensuring accountability. As a first step, we are working on the development of an international prosecution office.

This request has been listened to.

@Eurojust is playing a key role to support the largest number of documented war crimes of all time.

The way criminal proceedings are transferred from one MS to another is not always simple due to communication issues, delays, for example. I informed Ministers that the Commission is now working on a proposal to have common 🇪🇺 wide procedures. This should be ready in the spring.
