@James_BG The opposite of last Labour government who hardly ever talked about it but actually did it.

RT @kernowbeaver: @BenGoldsmith Yes we do. My feeling is that we need a strong agroforestry scheme. 100 to 200 trees per hectare would lead to no loss whatever in grazing potential. That would seem the way into 3 dimensional landscape with a lot more wildlife potential.

@ArielBrunner The EcoTree article states: "a well-managed forest absorbs more carbon than a forest that is not maintained". And, yes, there are good reasons not to maintain some forests.

@ArielBrunner The Q. posed is only about the Austrian forest (not about where the wood goes). A managed forest can store more carbon than an unmanaged forest. The safe storage of carbon, needed to tackle climate change, will be achieved at a larger scale (ie more carbon) via a managed forest.

@ArielBrunner My understanding is that the science does say a managed forest stores more carbon than an unmanaged one, see EcoTree: ecotree.green/en/blog/when-it- But of course forests have other roles in which case you may decide not to manage a forest.

Agree Reducing energy should be the aim. Insulation the easy win BUT we need to use nature based materials with negligible carbon footprints NOT materials like stone wool or polystyrene which have large carbon footprints @SteicoUK @europanels_EPF @asbp_uk @CEIBois @ArchitectsCAN
RT @janrosenow: Demand for energy efficiency, solar and heat pumps has never been higher.

Huge opportunity for government to take advantage of this and…

@Willbish @ImoSykes @MoreOurselves @guardian @helena_bennett_ The science suggests we all have a vested interest in an increased sale of wood products. This from 2022: mantledev.com/insights/reduces

From Commission President's speech “work tirelessly on climate adaptation and make nature our first ally”. Importance of “energy saving renovations”.
“That we invest in sustainability. But also that we invest sustainably”. A reference to insulation made by burning fossil fuels?

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/PaulBrannenNE/status

@ImoSykes @MoreOurselves @guardian @helena_bennett_ Yes - BUT - 99% of insulation materials have an extremely high embodied carbon level ie their manufacture involves burning fossil fuels. Result, one third of climate benefit is lost. Wood fibre needed instead.

RT @emmahberglund: European Parliament adopted its report on the - a balanced approach, recognizing that varying forests in EU require varying management approaches. Also stresses the role of wood-based products for storing carbon and substituting fossil-based products 🌳
