RT by @PaulBrannenNE: UK is heavily dependent on importing timber & other forest products from the rest of Europe.
Following new climate change commitments from the European Commission, demand for those forest products in mainland Europe looks set to rise steeply.

RT by @PaulBrannenNE: Through the wood-based bioeconomy, it is possible to mitigate climate change by replacing materials based on fossil resources and Forest Director @niemi_karoliina states at the Finnish Forest Industries Federation organizes Towards more biodiverse forests lunch seminar at the European Parliament today. Wood from sustainably-managed forests plays a central role, and biodiversity is a key element of sustainability – also essential to forest resilience. Check out the biodiversity roadmap for the wood processing industry.

Strangely misty in the Toon last night. I think I saw Sherlock Holmes at the top of the Civic Centre tower. But there again I could have been mistaken.

More of this please. It’s not an either or. We can do both. Maybe not on every farm but on many/most.

Are Canadians smaller than Europeans? This new timber build in Canada is 79m tall & 25-storeys but we have the HoHo timber build in Austria which is 84m & 24-storeys. Either way they are both good news for the climate as both store lots of carbon

RT by @PaulBrannenNE: 🎙️“...95.2 mln ha of cropland and pastureland in the EU-27 are devoid of 🌳, and 117.9 mln ha have less than 10% 🌳-crown-cover. Bringing these areas to the 10% 🌳-crown-cover threshold would mean planting 11.2 mln ha of AF”, according to EURAF's policy analyst, Gerry Lawson.

I agree. Agroforestry has the potential to be a key component of a successful strategy to tackle climate breakdown. More trees on farms please! And at the same time food production can be maintained at current levels.

Bio-based products can substantially reduce GHG emissions. An analysis of the environmental trade-offs of 98 products, reported in 130 studies, found that bio-based products emitted 45% less GHG during their life cycle compared to fossil counterparts.
