@thisisconcrete @concretecentre The global scale of carbon emissions from concrete production are immense, at 8% of all emissions. Yes, we need concrete to lower its carbon emissions but above all we need to reduce the use of concrete. Do you support a reduction? theguardian.com/cities/2019/fe

@andyheald We've a similar carbon 'store' in Newcastle down on the Quayside. Five storeys of timber from 16/17th centuries in Bessie Surtees House.

Happening tomorrow Tues 7th March. You can follow online, as I will. @CEIBois's technical adviser Andrew Norton will be speaking on wood's ability to store carbon over long periods in the built environment @Wood4Bauhaus @europanels_EPF @BauhausEarth @TimberDevUK @WaughThistleton
RT @EUClimateAction: 🚨 Save the date! 🚨

Join us for our kick-off meeting of the expert group: Best practices and challenges of carbon removal certification.

Dear @CEMEX
My usual question, which you never answer, what is the size of the carbon footprint of this building? What is its level of embodied carbon? I guess you know, please share.
Thanks

As a former member of the European Parliament's agriculture committee I'd point out that agroforestry is one way in which 10%+ of a farm can be converted to trees WITHOUT a reduction in food production. Lots of examples incl from Australia jigsawfarms.com.au/who-we-are @Agroforestry
RT @EPPGroup: If European farmers abandon 10% of farmland, this will lead to:

👉Increased food prices
👉More imports of unsafe food that does not meet EU standards
👉Even a …

RT @Agroforestry: @PaulBrannenNE @EPPGroup Yes land equivalent ratio can be easily 1,1, this is now. With climate change worsening, more drought, organic soil mineralisation and yield depression forecasted, this ratio will increase over time. Also studies from in Germany come to this result. See @defaf

RT @CRad_Adams: You’re a Spanish tomato farmer. You usually sell 20 tons to the UK and 80 tons in the EU.

You only produce 50 tons this year. Do you still split it between UK/EU, or just sell the lot in the EU because it’s a single market and just plain easier.🤔

Brexit. Borders. Barriers.👏

RT @TimberDevUK: Wood fibre insulation. It prevents heat escaping the house in cold weather, prevents overheating in hot summers, has anti-moisture superpowers, is a win for embodied carbon. Why use anything else?

RT @EuropeMiltton: @PaulBrannenNE, Director of PA @CEIBois showed how buildings can go from having a relatively large carbon footprint to being carbon sinks. Using wood as a construction material is an essential part of that. He also noted that wood promotes well-being.🌲🙌

Enjoyed speaking at this event today. To be able to maximise wood’s role in decarbonising the built environment we need to be able to safely treat wood to extend its lifetime of use, especially on the exterior of buildings.

Good news.
Using nature based materials such as wood will help new builds comply with the limit value.
