• This means that 🇱🇹 has to apply additional checks on road and rail transit through 🇪🇺 territory.
• Of course, these checks are focused, proportionate and effective. They will be based on smart risk management, to avoid sanctions evasion while allowing free transit.

• So why is this coming up now?
Because a number of EU sanctions against specific Russian exports (steel products, construction material) are becoming applicable now (after short transition periods).

• We have always said that the supply to Kaliningrad of essential goods remains unhindered.
