An interesting meeting with the #renewables companies in Tokyo this morning, focussing on off-shore wind. The 🇪🇺EU & Japan🇯🇵 have a shared interest in scaling up renewable #energy & we are happy to share our experience in this sector.

I started my visit to Japan🇯🇵 with a seminar on EU’s response to the #energy crisis - accelerating the #greentransition is our answer to both the security of supply & price challenges. It is important to share our approach with key partners like #Japan.

The report shows higher adequacy risk compared to previous winters.

But 🇪🇺countries have taken measures to prepare for winter, such as gas storage accumulation & fuel switching, as well as to cut the electricity demand peaks by 5%.

All this will decrease the risk significantly.

What makes it harder to tackle is that it is not a crisis caused by supply or demand, it is a crisis caused by war – by Russia’s war on #Ukraine🇺🇦 & by 🇷🇺’s energy war on Europe. But we will prevail.

The @EU_Commission has set out intermediate gas storage filling targets that 🇪🇺 Member States should meet to reach the 90% gas storage target by 1 November 2023.
