@LBC And what about those couples who can’t have children? The author’s thoughts about living in a compassionate society have clearly gone out of the window.

@davenewworld_2 Congratulations to the lady on a superb effort and fantastic achievement. And well done to her family for ignoring the organiser’s lack of common sense and empathy. You’re an example of the great traits of the human spirit.

The organisers should be ashamed of themselves.

@DesignOblong @BBCRadio2 On my way back from holiday, so have not been keeping up with things. I’d wrongly assumed that he’d stepped down. If they’ve pushed him, as is being reported, then it’s a terrible mistake on their part. Were a commercial station to come in for him, I’d happily swop channels.

@DickDelingpole Enjoy Dick. It’s a lovely and special place. Great memories. We scattered my brother’s ashes there because he loved it so much. See you soon mate, Jim

One of South London’s finest, Steve Wright, is stepping down after forty years on @BBCRadio2. I first listened as a young teenager & still laugh thinking back about “Sid the Manager” - “Hello boy”, & “The Black Cabbie” - “Oi, where’s yer lights”. Thanks for the laughter Steve.

@AuschwitzMuseum @Freedland That’s good to know. Have their stories ever been told?

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/JamesJimCarver/statu

@AuschwitzMuseum @Freedland Absolutely, & those brave escape attempts are referred to in the book. My understanding is that they were the first successful Jewish escapers. Forgetting to add the word ‘successful’ to my tweet clearly leaves me at fault in the Twittersphere. In any event it’s a compelling read

Currently reading @Freedland’s “The Escape Artist” about the first Jewish escapees from Auschwitz. Incredible resilience. Uncomfortable as it is, it’s a book that really should be read. My grandfather’s uncle, aunt & cousins were all murdered there: May their memory be a blessing
