Lance Corporal Abubakare Kiru, of the Lagos Hausa Force, later Lagos Bttn. West African Frontier Force, was a member of the 1902 coronation contingent. He fought in various Nigerian campaigns & the 1900 Ashanti War. His Ashanti medal was personally presented to him by Edward VII

A interesting & scarce Ashantee Medal from the 1873-74 campaign (Third Ashanti War), awarded to Pte. Asumo of Glover’s Hausa Force. One of the many freed slaves recruited by Sir John Glover, who enlisted into the nucleus of what later became the West African Frontier Force.
