Something in this - any opportunities that leaving the EU affords are frequently squandered by the Gov; too often this seems to be wilful.

Retained EU Law Bill is about to land in @UKHouseofLords. Gives those minority of Brexiteer peers plenty to grapple with re balance in terms of taking back control of UK laws. With some caveats, this explainer from @BBCRosAtkins, is a useful guide to various sides of the debates.

As and in news today, here's what I said in 2nd Reading of Gov's Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill in @UKHouseofLords earlier this week
RT @Fox_Claire: The gov's spineless surrender to backbench Tory NIMBYs has ripped the house-building heart out of its own Levelling Up Bill. Plus, the faux democracy of more devolution/mayors doesn't mean People Power - ULEZ, LTNs and 15-minute cities are often imposed despite public opposition.

Excellent approach to politics here from @KonstantinKisin: don't write off people who disagree with you; take them seriously & try to persaude them with the force of your argument. This is our approach at @acadofideas. Anything else is to lapse into a bitter, nihilistic fatalism
RT @KonstantinKisin: "We need to believe young people are persuadable."

Me on Tucker last night.

Labour may be trying to rebrand as the Take Back Control party, but if it pursues the self-ID route, in wake of SNP's horror story for women's rights in Scotland, it will struggle to get control of parliament at the next election.

My first Lords speech of 2023 on the Financial Services & Markets Bill. I argued against Big Tech Payment Processing - like PayPal - suspending accounts to regulate speech and punish 'wrong think' as happened to @SpeechUnion and @UsforThemUK.

I don't agree with all @juneslater17 says here (I'm much more of an enthusiastic zealot about education). Bit it made me laugh out loud. And she's spot on about Rishi's daft 'Maths til 18' idea which is both bonkers & misses point of myriad ways education pre 16 needs to improve.

This is beautiful. Happy Christmas to all &
RT @glabsandra: What is more commonly known as ‘Carol of the Bells’ was originally a Ukrainian folk chant welcoming the New Year called ‘Shchedryk’. It was arranged by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1916. Here it is performed by Helena Androsova. (1/3)

Can this possibly be true? Starmer has, of late, read the (red wall) room well. This is not only tone deaf but would shockingly betray cause of women's rights, and not convinced it's driven by any genuine concern for social justice. I hope @LabWomenDec can clarify

Just so you know, @AdamsArtist I name-checked your 'Abolish The Arts Council' pamphlet in this speech (everyone else see here) bournbrookmag.com/books/p/abol

I don't care what gender this UCU officer identifies as, Robyn is clearly a reactionary censor, barring access to a documentary, betraying academic freedom, shaming trade unionists. Hope @EdinburghUni staff/ students show film in future. I'm furious but solidarity @EdinUniAFAF
