On the occasion of the International Day for the Elderly, which will be celebrated in a few days, Miriam and I attended a mass organised by #CaritasMalta. Together we celebrated the contribution that the elderly have given and are still giving to our society.

Today, I visited the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta. Architect David Zahra explained the progress of this @heritagemalta project and the discoveries made during the works. These include a cycle of fresco paintings that date back to the rule of Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt.

A most interesting conversation with author Prof. Charles Briffa following a presentation of a considerable number of books that he authored. Together with representatives from l-Akkademja tal-Malti and Malta Libraries, we discussed the future of the #Maltese language.

This morning I had a very interesting meeting with the Head of the Maltese Representation in Ramallah, Palestine, Mr Franklin Aquilina. During the meeting, we discussed at length developments related to the political situation in the region.

We thoroughly enjoyed attending the sixteenth edition of Żejt iż-Żejtun. I thank everyone involved in the organisation of this folk festival. Such activities show us the value of our #culture and #traditions, and it would be a shame to discard them.

This morning I received a courtesy call from the Public Service Commission headed by the newly appointed Chairperson, Mr Saviour Cachia. During the meeting, Mr Cachia presented me with a copy of the Public Service Commission’s Annual Report for 2021.

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the #Independence Concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Mro Alan Chircop @teatrumanoel. The concert was organised by Festivals Malta together with the National Festivities Committee.

Earlier today, we attended the pontifical mass on the occasion of #IndependenceDay. Afterwards, together with Minister Owen Bonnici & the Leader of the Opposition Bernard Grech, I honoured Independent Malta by placing a bouquet of flowers on the Independence Monument in Floriana.

Last Saturday I was received by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons at the Palace of #Westminster as part of my appointments to honour the memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Sir Hoyle spoke of the special affection that the Queen held towards #Malta.

Miriam and I are currently in London for the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Today, we honoured her memory and signed the book of condolence at Lancaster House.

Yesterday I inaugurated an exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between #Malta and #Estonia. I thank all the #photographers exhibiting their work for the manner in which they have captured Malta’s beauty, rich culture and heritage.

In a meeting with @UrmasReinsalu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Estonia, we discussed the Ukraine war & its impact. Particular emphasis was placed on the prevailing concerns regarding energy security. In this context, we also referred to the #SOTEU delivered by @vonderleyen.

The engagements of the Maltese delegation in #Estonia continued this morning with a visit to the e-Estonia Briefing Centre, which plays an integral role in promoting the country’s know-how and expertise in digital services, as well as the Education and Youth Board.

During a meeting with President @AlarKaris, we discussed the war in Ukraine, its effects on global stability. The Mediterranean, multilateral cooperation, the future of the EU & its Enlargement, & the #Arraiolos group meeting taking place in #Malta next month were also discussed.
