There already exists a mechanism, created by Draghi, to fight "financial fragmentation." It is called "Outright Monetary Transactions". It comes with conditionality attached- MOU/ESM. But: it has become politically toxic.
The objective of @ecb is to recreate it without toxicity.

This vote is not final. The Parliament’s decision will be taken in July during the Plenary session. To vote down the Commission proposal, an absolute majority will be required i.e. 353 votes in favor of the objection.

The proposal also includes a disclosure requirement that guarantees that investors can opt out from gas and nuclear - avoiding precisely a potential greenwash.

The Commission proposal that was voted down does not consider nuclear and gas as green energy sources. It says these energies contribute to the green transition, and as such are included in the taxonomy during a limited period of time and under very strict conditions.

Disappointing vote today at @EP_Economics & @EP_Environment against considering nuclear and gas as transition technologies. We need both of them to achieve a sensible green transition.
