Thank you @MarinSanna for taking us into the woods in Haltia and @vonderleyen for launching #NewEuropeanBauhaus Academy for sustainable construction.
Estonia, Finland and Sweden will contribute by creating a platform that develops skills related to sustainable use of wood. 1/6
Also thank you @MarinSanna, @vonderleyen, @BuschEbba for today's discussion on the role of forests providing material for sustainable construction while fostering biodiversity and carbon sinks.
Estonians are passionate about forests, and we expect a lot from our forests. 3/6
As forest-rich countries with long experience in sustainable forest management Estonia, Finland and Sweden can be pioneers in transforming the sector.
Perhaps, as a way forward, forestry needs its own Just Transition for certain parts of the sector. 5/6
We want our forests to last. In this regard #NewEuropeanBauhaus initiative is important. Wood is a natural fit in the initiative to provide sustainable construction. 6/6
My full remarks at today's event: https://valitsus.ee/en/news/remarks-prime-minister-kaja-kallas-new-european-bauhaus-goes-woods-event-finland-24112022
Forest is a source of livelihood, provider of resources, also carbon sinks, sanctuary for species.
Finding a balance between these sometimes conflicting roles of preservation and use is challenging. This must be our aim - make it profitable for the owner and for nature. 4/6
