@Dewix888 @forumeditor @SaulStaniforth @Z_Beeb @carla_denyer Complete myth. Labour doesn't even begin to help and has no right to complain if others have to collaborate without them.

@jeff20337 @SaulStaniforth @carla_denyer With proper funding for renewables, permissions for onshore wind, an insulation, heat pumps & solar panels programme and subsidised public transport, we'd not be in this fix. Decades of Tory failure have delivered a disaster. Let's put it right at once. Green is the way forward.

@jeff20337 @SaulStaniforth @carla_denyer Renewables should be funded from public money, accompanied by appropriate taxes on fossil fuels, and on environmentally damaging activities such as flying. There should be no VAT or green levies on renewable energy.

@forumeditor @SaulStaniforth @Z_Beeb @carla_denyer Why is that ironic? Green Party has been a progressive party for decades, and holds to principles rather than pandering to media prejudice.

@robert_cubitt @BylinesEast @Catheri76130871 @mikegalsworthy @RichardJMurphy @houghton_louise @DeborahMeaden @jackabbott90 @sandyofipswich @labourlewis I think the reverse. The media have played down the risks posed by Tory govt for decades. Now we're seeing the effects. People are surprised. We shouldn't be surprised, but the media have been pushing lies for the Tories. You think it's exaggeration? You ain't seen nothing yet.

Which parties can you vote for nationally & locally that have a policy of returning services to public ownership?
In England & Wales, @TheGreenParty is your best bet.
If you don't yet have a Green candidate for your next election, would you be willing to stand?

Tories sold the family silver to conceal the failure of their economic policies and pretend that they were responsible with money. It was an utterly irresponsible move and we have been reaping the consequences. Those services are vital in times of need.

The Royal Mail postal service should not have been privatised.
The water supply should not have been privatised.
UK power supplies and gas supplies for business and households should not have been privatised.
Railways should not have been privatised.
Tories sold them...

RT @mikeysmith: STORY

Efficiency minister Jacob Rees-Mogg spent £1,300 of public money travelling to Wales by car.

A return train ticket would have cost £98.

@DAOBarry There will be a huge drop in revenue, both from business rates and VAT. If they think they can make up for the shortfall by cutting services or taxing workers they'll find there are riots. Of course they could easily make up the shortfall by taxing unearned income and wealth...

RT @ColossusDiplo: The government is no longer planning to use its Brexit trade deals to spread and enforce human rights around the world, a leaked letter from the international trade secretary has revealed.

@DavidRobjant The problem is that because of structural problems with our corrupt society, there's a whole swathe of people who have to use an inferior product, for want of any alternative, both due to cost and to their inadequate housing and circumstances. The whole system needs correcting.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@DavidRobjant But that is precisely what I am saying. The problem is poverty (which is unnecessary and politically manipulated) and poor housing (which is unnecessary and politically manipulated) and the usual fossil fuel lobby presenting as an improvement what is actually an inferior thing.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@DavidRobjant Yes I understand all this. You've made the point several times. They are not a good thing. They are the sticking plaster for poverty imposed on an increasing proportion of the people in a very wealthy country. And they are environmentally terrible and a poor form of insulation.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@DavidRobjant I remember when my mother got an electric spin dryer instead of the wringer. It much improved the drying of the washing. The trouble with the looming energy crisis is that you can't wash or spin your laundry if there's no money for the electric meter. Save up for the launderette?

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@DavidRobjant I agree. I know very well about the damp cold housing with mould. Indeed many of my students live in cold housing and have been using no heating for years. But it's not really helped by using polyester clothing. Addressing the housing issue is the correct solution.

@ACarpenDigital @MMaryMcKenna Places with very high house prices and rents are not at all a good place to be if you have a wage or benefit that's fixed without reference to local cost of living.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@DavidRobjant Wool requires less washing, resists dirt, stays fresh for longer, needing no sticky conditioner which attracts filth and quickly looks grubby. So it's probably actually better for those with no good place to dry washing, if they can learn to wash the woollens once in 3 months.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@ACarpenDigital What does it mean, offset by the reduction in output elsewhere? I suppose this is someone who thought that oil is "squandered" if it's not increasing industry and jobs and therefore "growth"? The real problem is that it was sold cheap, so no one prioritised heat-saving homes.
