Improving the monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon removals is the first step to enable robust markets use of carbon certificates

There must be a clear differentiation between short-cycle removal, with terrestrial sinks, and long-term removal, with geological sinks.

An important element of any policy framework for carbon removals will be the development of new CO₂ transport and storage networks and infrastructures, connecting industrial emitters with CO₂ storage capacity.

Carbon removals from forests, agricultural practices or technological solutions will play a growing role in achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

The heatwave shows the need to address the built environment. Cost of inaction will be far exceeded by adaptation costs.

Ultimately the focus is on decarbonising the building stock and every technology that can deliver on this should be considered.

The EU has been consistent in its position and it is my hope that whoever takes over in Downing Street we can start to build a more sustainable relationship.

Regardless, the last few years have shown that the EU must have the trade defense tools at its disposal if needed.
