@highlandsrewild @JeremyLeggett @UniStrathclyde @aberdeenuni Carbon markets will have multiple manifestations as we strive for net-zero by 2050 including for carbon stored in wood products in the built environment. This works for Scotland's forestry adding extra value as in the USA: prweb.com/releases/2022/9/prwe

@_charliebingham Not trying to be argumentative but while the sky is beautiful the landscape is problematic. What happens when it's dry & the wind blows? Loss of top soil? When it rains fertiliser & pesticides into the drain? I'd suggest agroforestry would be good addition agricology.co.uk/resources/agr

@alcard_ac @debatingeurope @WFDemocracy @coe @debatingafrica @nymanista @HelfriedCarl @benanimanal2 @ECoD_network @Youth_Forum @strasbourg @giorgia_baldino Hi Alessandra - can I draw your attention to the beautiful wooden roof which is also safely storing carbon & at the time of its construction substituted for steel &/or concrete that would have emitted carbon during their manufacture. To decarbonise the built environment use woo…

Grant Shapps MP - it's not just the old house that are badly insulated, we are today building new homes that are poorly insulated! You need to legislate higher standards for new build insulation @BBCRadio4 @grantshapps

A timely December conference, 'Timber! Why the UK needs the wood - and the trees'. Speakers include Friends of the Earth, Lord Deben & Richard Stanford Forestry Commission. @TimberDevUK @forestsandwood @friends_earth confor.org.uk/resources/events

@JanetHughes Good to hear. My worry is that nobody is really grasping just how significantly the landscape will have to change if we are truly serious about tackling global warming & biodiversity loss. We desperately need a land use strategy.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Northumberland distinctly short of trees in large swathes of the uplands. Agroforestry would help. More carbon could be stored. Wind farms too.
RT @JanetHughes: Hey Northumberland is quite stunningly beautiful though, isn’t it? 😍

RT @jonburkeUK: As flash flooding once again looms over London, it's worth noting that a single young tree planted in a small pit can reduce rain runoff by 60%.

Just one of the reasons I delivered 5,000 street trees in Hackney, an increase in on-street canopy cover of 50%.

Thank me later.

@jonburkeUK ‘Climate change’ also sounds rather neutral. ‘Climate breakdown’ or ‘climate chaos’ more accurate ie bad consequences are resulting.

Excellent pub. East of the city centre, with a fine view west looking up the River Tyne.
RT @europebarguide: Free Trade Inn, Newcastle 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 We have been here before, because it is excellent and still is. Different during the day but in the right way. Clear views, dusty and atmospheric, great selection of drinks as usual. 👍🍻

Greenwash is everywhere.
Actions speak louder than words.
'Doing the right thing' is clearly not in M&S's nature, whatever they write in their annual report @MarksnSpence
RT @SustainableTall: M&S annual report: “We know our customers want to do the right thing for the planet…Doing the right thing is in our nature and as a company embedded in our values.”

Also M&S: Lets demolish and rebuild our store costing 40,000 tonnes of CO2…

There’s a pattern here. The Conservative government have also breached their own climate legislation, according to the High Court, aimed at delivering net zero clientearth.org/latest/latest-
RT @horton_official: Ministers admit delays will cause government to breach Environment Act @CarolineLucas @CraigBennett3 @JimfromOldham https://www…

Awful optics:
- UK PM not going to UN climate talks in Egypt
- King Charles not allowed to attend
- Alok Sharma President COP26 demoted from cabinet
- onshore wind still banned.
Difficult to see the UK as a global leader on climate in this context.
