Does anyone have any figures/research for what % of the reduction in C02 emissions from insulating a house is then 'lost' if the materials used are high in embodied carbon, as per most insulation materials? (But not nature based ones.)

RT @ANGETERRY: Everyone is trying to cut their carbon footprint & wants a more enjoyable journey.

People want to get away from the stress of the airport, and once they travel by train & see more scenery & saunter to their hotel easily they want to do it again 💚

RT @ChiefExecCCC: Looks like Govt will be having a ‘green moment’ at the end of the month. That makes sense - government has until the end of March to bring forward a new Net Zero strategy to comply with the High Court judgement. That will also be the response to Chris Skidmore’s review.

RT @PaulWoldfarm: Smile of the week. Soil test came back from a field in its 6th yr of No-till from 2.8 to 6.6% OM in 6 years.

@alanshearer I hope the hand ball law is not government policy? If it is Alan Shearer is in trouble.

@GreenAcres_Farm @WoodlandTrust Any conifers in the mix or only native deciduous? I’m a life member of the Woodland Trees but find their apparent refusal to plant conifers a bit baffling when we are in the midst of a climate crisis. They were planting Scots Pine outside the EU Parliament in Strasbourg today.

@bettwsresident @DaveThroup @WUFoundation We’re waving goodbye to our top soil! “The nation that destroys its soil destroys itself.” President Roosevelt. Three meter wide tree buffer zones along all watercourses would help plus agroforestry in the fields.

👏Key milestone to reducing the climate impacts of buildings:

✔️the EPBD will now target carbon emissions throughout the 🏠 lifecycle

✔️the will have to 1⃣ report & 2⃣ reduce the impacts of building materials for construction/renovation

@quine_chris Buffer planting of trees along the edge of all water courses would make a big difference. It would boost biodiversity too. The arable fields then need agroforestry. “The nation that destroys its soil destroys itself.” President Roosevelt

@samdknowlton Have they also experiment with planting trees along the strips at intervals as per some agroforestry planting? Or is the shade generated counterproductive?

Good to catch up with MEPs from across the political spectrum in Strasbourg. Lots happening in the European Parliament linked to timber’s ability to help decarbonise the built environment ⁦@CEIBois⁩ ⁦@SeanKellyMEP⁩ ⁦@miapetrakumpula

RT @ciarancuffe: The deal is adopted! Huge step forward for lower energy bills, reducing energy poverty, and tackling 36% of EU emissions. Next up: final talks with EU Member States & Commission

Good to see they are planting Scots Pine trees outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg this morning. Conifers are very good at absorbing carbon maybe it’s part of the certification framework for carbon removals? ⁦@emmawiesner⁩ ⁦@woelken⁩ ⁦@lidiafopereira

RT @_ZETTELER_: Fantastic feature on The Black & White Building in @ArchitectsJrnal.

The collaboration between @TheOfficeGroup and @WaughThistleton was essential to creating this boundary-pushing sustainable workplace.

@OllyB1972 @SustainableTall Correct. It primarily absorbs when it decays but at this point the building has reached the end of its life and is likely to be demolished. Concrete industry happy to give the impression that all their buildings are carbon sinks but the amount they sequester is negligible.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/PaulBrannenNE

@SustainableTall Agree but the concrete industry need to: be honest about how problematic their product is, be willing to publish embodied carbon figures & stop over claiming their green credentials - especially re their spurious claim that concrete absorbs carbon.
