@James_BG Free range hens under & around solar panels is an ok use of land. In addition she could talk about all new homes having compulsory solar which would make up a little bit for the downside of ongoing urban sprawl. But then I'm not sure she's up for taking on the big house builders.

@WestNorfolkBC what has gone wrong here?
RT @CharlieJGardner: Rather than pushing for decarbonisation, my council @WestNorfolkBC planted 6000 trees - in May🤦

This week I checked 150 of them - 90% were dead. Of those, 15% weren't even properly planted in the ground.

What a shocking waste of effort and money!

@CSkidmoreUK @James_BG @BusinessGreen Yes BUT we need to use nature based insulation materials eg wood fibre, hemp etc as 99% of current insulation materials have very high levels of embodied carbon, otherwise ‘Robbing Peter to pay Paul’ @SteicoUK @europanels_EPF

RT @MicOrchard: @Ben_Raskin just checked the hedge I planted in Feb, the side I mulched with wood chip has about 3x more growth and almost no dead saplings Vs the side without wood chip. Seems that even simple mulch makes a big difference especially in a dry year. Thank you.

UK has amongst lowest forest cover in Europe. Note yesterday's climate package in the USA included more tree planting.
RT @jonburkeUK: 1/ What if I told you - with the continent suffering another and England in severe conditions - that increasing forest cover in Europe by 20% would result in 8% more summer rain, with negligible effects on winter rain?

You might not believe me, but it's true.

@GreenpeaceUK @TheCCoalition @friends_earth @XRebellionUK @WildlifeTrusts @nationaltrust @GreenAllianceUK Thanks. Lots of good stuff here from @GreenpeaceUK although page 12 shows man installing 'mineral wool insulation' made by melting rock at 1,500 degrees C by burning fossil fuels! Why not a nature based material eg wood fibre, hemp? 99% of current insulation is fossil fuel based

Good article, where are the green ngos on this issue? @TheCCoalition @friends_earth @GreenpeaceUK @XRebellionUK @WildlifeTrusts @nationaltrust @GreenAllianceUK thehill.com/opinion/energy-env

In an otherwise bleak news agenda some good news from the USA: The Inflation Reduction Act will reduce CO2 emissions by 40% & proposes forests as climate solutions via a whole-of-government approach to getting more trees planted @CEIBois @forestsandwood

RT @James_BG: So as I was listening to this it passed the Senate. A truly gargantuan boost to US renewables, EVs, heat pumps, energy efficiency, hydrogen, methane reduction, air quality, CCS, R&D, etc, etc, is now imminent.

RT @rodrigofmourao1: The built environment accounts for nearly 50 percent of all carbon emissions and faces an uphill battle towards decarbonization, especially as mass urbanization will require even more buildings to rise in densely packed cities.

Good to see this. Many of us would like to see our green NGOs being harder hitting re fossil fuel use and with specific demands.
RT @WWFEU: Tobacco advertising was legally banned in the EU for being a threat to our health. It’s time to do the same with fossil fuel companies.

@Ben_Raskin @SoilAssociation @chelseagreen Congratulations & deserved. Your section on the potential for Ramial Chipped Wood is a sign of hope. "Boost soil health, increase yields and help mitigate climate change". RCW's ability to reduce fossil fuel based fertiliser use seems significant to me.
