Good to see wood's ability to store carbon that's been removed from the atmosphere acknowledged in this important report from USA: The Hidden Climate Impact of Residential Construction rmi.org/insight/hidden-climate @CEIBois @TimberDevUK @Wood4Bauhaus @WaughThistleton @Build_in_Wood

Good to see key players from across the wood, pulp, packaging, board, tissue & printing sectors coming together to promote their strong collective bioeconomy offering to the EU institutions - an offering that aims to mitigate 30% of EU carbon emissions by 2050.
RT @CEIBois: We launched our campaign! We draw attention to the policy choices that EU policymakers now face, urging them to support our contribution to Europe's resilience and to enabling …

@now_ecology @EU_Commission In what way are wood burning stoves in individual homes EU subsidised? I agree the smoke is a health issue.

@JohnMcLaughlinA @ciarancuffe London’s current regulations following the horrific Grenfell Tower fire allow for 18m to the floor of top floor. So six storeys still possible as per the recently opened Black&White Building amp.theguardian.com/artanddesi

Introducing the newest & tallest timber office building in Brussels close to the European Parliament - 7 storeys. Its engineered timber frame substituting for concrete & steel that have high levels of embodied carbon & instead it's storing carbon wow.timber-engineering.partner @CEIBois

This is good news. In my experience the people who you would think would consider such issues when planning simply don’t! Making it compulsory for embodied carbon amounts to be written down should facilitate a greater awareness of the climate impact of construction. @TimberDevUK
RT @SustainableTall: It’s a start…

A new production line for wood fibre insulation to be up and running by 2025 at the Meppen site in Emsland, Germany. It will produce insulation that will store carbon & substitute for fossil fuel based alternatives. @woelken @LinsNorbert @peterliese @delarabur @MartinHaeusling

RT @pateroninho13: Ukrainian athlete and defender Volodymyr Androshchuk, 22, will not represent Ukraine at the Olympics because the Russian army killed him near Bakhmut two weeks ago.
Why should Russian athletes be allowed to compete?

Here we go again. Another opportunity to tackle climate change missed as we set about building yet another concrete & steel building with massive embodied carbon. Why not engineered timber to both store carbon & substitute for the terrible twins? ⁦@ArchitectsCAN⁩

Anybody who has anything directly or indirectly to do with tall buildings should read this important book. ⁦@PeteApps⁩

@ouronehome But please think about the materials you use. Some insulation materials have a been made using large amounts of fossil fuel eg polystyrene insulation. Others less eg rock/stone wool. Others very little eg wood fibre, sheep’s wool.

RT @andyheald: @JoeWStanley Which is why we need to be growing more trees to produce more timber & fibre, which can be used to replace high energy materials like plastics, concrete & steel.
Then we are reducing emissions AND sequestering carbon.

@now_ecology Which is exactly why we need to build more with timber to both substitute for concrete where appropriate & to store carbon in wood in the built environment. This will involve chopping down trees & replanting in a sustainable way.
