I welcome today’s vote & strong support for the @europarl_en report on Georgia.
The report acknowledges where progress on reforms has been made, but is also clear on the overall negative state of democratic processes and the sources of it

The report is also very clear that ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili must be allowed to undergo medical treatment abroad in accordance with Article 283 of the Criminal Code of Georgia

And we urge and expect the release of Nika Gvaramia and the dropping of all politically-motivated trumped up charges against him

To make it clear, we call for individual sanctions on Ivanishvili because of his role in the deterioration of the democratic process & its impact on Georgia’s European future

We remain ready for constructive dialogue with political leaders from across the political spectrum, incl through the Jean Monnet Dialogue, to support Georgia in its reforms, to strengthen its democracy and resilience, and work towards the country’s European future.
