During #WW2 RAF Fighter Command men were famously known as ‘The Few’. In my book, Bomber Command men were the ‘The Many’, having lost 55,573 men including my Uncle aged 22. The last of their generation to survive the war are now passing to a better place.

The memorial to Major Meiklejohn, Gordon Highlanders, outside Hyde Park Barracks. A Boer War Victoria Cross winner, he was killed in 1913 when his horse bolted in Hyde Park. To avoid hitting a Nanny walking a pram, he deliberately steered into railings and was fatally injured.
