The 23% rise in fuel duty in five months time is an absolute shocker, hitting the working man & woman directly in their pocket or purse. Coming into force at the end of this tax year, it will make forecasts for small businesses & the self employed even more unpredictable.

Good chat with @JabbaRiaz after his disappointment. Finished the conversation with laughter from us both when I pointed out that 13 years before my own election to the Euro. Parliament, I got less votes in a general election than a Monster Looney candidate called ‘Dancing Ken’😅

With disillusioned Labour voters now clearly returning from both the Lib Dems and UKIP, I can only see the gap widening. Furthermore, if, as some fear, it proves to be a harsh winter, they’ll garner further support from disgruntled, floating Green voters.

The priority & moral obligation must be the Chagossian community. I worry that Chinese influence over Mauritius could possibly lead to future stalemate in this strategically important area. Resettlement under a British flag is a sensible option. @ChagosUK
