The EU has always been at the heart of the fight for equal pay, beginning in the 1970's with EU legislation on the issue.

I remember at the time, the Irish government argued that it was too expensive to introduce Equal Pay for men and women!

Today is #EUEqualPayDay

In the EU, women are hourly paid 13.0% less than men on average.

This equals one and an half months of salary - that means from today until the end of 2022, women will effectively work for free.

With the #G20 meeting today focusing on Global Food Security among other matters I am attending the Brussels launch of this year’s Global Hunger Index.

As famine looms in the Horn of Africa, we are looking at Europe’s response and how the cycle of crises can and must be broken!
