➡️Fisheries is an exclusive competence of the EU 🇪🇺.
Every year, the @EU_Commission tables a proposal for the EU fishing opportunities.
It is then discussed and adopted during a meeting of the @EUCouncil composed of 🎣 ministers of each EU Country, called #AGRIFISH.

Science 🔬 is at the core of determining 🎣 fishing opportunities.
@ICES_ASC and #STECF issue every year an independent scientific advice, determining the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) or precautionary advice for each 🐟 stock.
But what is MSY?⬇️

Each year, each stock has a sustainable catch level which provides the maximum catch (MSY) over the long term.
Based on this, EU countries agree on the TACs, of which they get quota shares.
Goal➡️avoid unsustainable 🎣 impacting the environment & future of fishers.

🇪🇺 TACs are coordinated with non-EU countries to ensure all🎣regulations follow🔬advice.
Setting TACs & quotas is a political decision balancing:
🔷 long-term sustainability of🐟stocks
🔷 socio-economic situation of the sector
while fully respecting rules of the #CFP
