It's a wrap for ! Here are excerpts from our closing session with directors Franck Noël @EULawDataPubs and @AristiNat @EU_DIGIT, some programme committee members and panel moderators in a 🧵 …

ENDORSE may be a technical conference but not altogether!
‘I was surprised by the number of times ‘human’ has been mentioned during [ENDORSE]’, said @AristiNat @EU_DIGIT at .

'Do benefits outweigh the costs' on the complexity and costs of the semantic fabric? This was a question Franck Noël @EULawDataPubs asked referring also to @esimperl's keynote at .

‘Interoperability is also key because in building the data spaces […] we cannot create or recreate new silos of data. We have to really collaborate to find synergies.’

‘Compared with , we had a much stronger focus on interoperability this year []. This is very positive as the Interoperable Europe Act will come into play,’ said @AristiNat @EU_DIGIT.

Among the evolutions seen since , Franck Noël @EULawDataPubs cites the increasing importance of . ‘Much of what we do around data and semantics might be framed by and generative in particular,’ he says.

'Not everything has changed since 2021,' says Franck Noël @EULawDataPubs. 'Have Linked Open Data held their promises? […] We are still talking about too many standards, which questions even the very meaning of the word "standard"'.

The difference between the last ENDORSE conference and is, says @AristiNat, that ‘we are really looking at what we need to change, how we need to use the tools to make more usage of those in the future. We have to look at things in a different way [now].’

'This is part of the [Interoperable Europe Act] we are putting forward, which is to build a platform where all these innovation solutions, frameworks, standards can be shared and improved by anybody using them.' @AristiNat @EU_DIGIT.

'We should probably start thinking about the decoupling or the possible decoupling between semantic data and semantic technologies.'
Franck Noël @EULawDataPubs .

‘I think it’s important than we don’t close the conference and we wait for the next one […], that really the discussions continue, and you have a platform, you have a community that is built,’ said @AristiNat @EU_DIGIT.

'One of the speakers asked "what is the truth?" I would like to complement that by "where is the truth?" […]
‘Is the truth in the data, the training data or in the algorithms?’ Franck Noël @EULawDataPubs at .

'The data quality is important but if we know the quality of our data, we can also use data which is not of top quality. […] We have to look at what we have as instruments now to use them and make value of the data, even if it’s not top quality,' said @AristiNat at .

programme committee member @schallierw of the @UN underlined the need to reflect on how we can ensure technology becomes a vehicle to uphold important values, diversity, human rights, and enable us to become 'digital citizens' ...

'We are at a cusp now where we're going from just the theory of making these things work to actually seeing various tools, learning about various tools that are actually implementing these things,' said Olaf Michael Stefanov at .

‘[At ] the balance between the technical people, the example and demo people and those who have philosophical and security aspects in mind was a very good balance’, said Olaf Michael Stefanov, programme committee member.

'It's really difficult to overcome silos in organisations [...]. The real blocking factors are still a sensitivity of political files or human aspects,' said @EU_Commission's @Jefvle at .

Among the conclusions from the panel 'Towards the creation of common European data spaces', Federico Milani @milanifed of @DigitalEU highlighted that standards should not be imposed, but be created by and with the stakeholders deciding together.

From the panel 'Agreeing on standards and standards to come', @Jefvle of @DigitalEU conveyed the need to spend more time on ‘human interoperability’ and consensus-building, besides the nitty gritty of the technical side.

.@Jefvle of @DigitalEU also distilled from the panel the common agreement that you may have to do a good sales pitch to convince people about the many benefits of standards.

Federico Milani @milanifed of @DigitalEU also reported from his panel that 'data sharing' is not just about making it available for all and for free, but also about being able to access data held by an organisation, hence the great interest in 'data spaces' being created.
