The first day of the Official Visit to ended with an Official Dinner hosted by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits and the First Lady of Latvia, Mrs Andra Levite.

Accompanied by the Minister for Public Works and Planning, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and the delegation, I visited the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia - a museum that brings the history of Latvia to life. Let our children learn from the past to be ready to face the future.

Discussions focused on regional challenges, Ukraine, the Mediterranean, Africa, and multilateral cooperation. During the meetings, I expressed my support to the challenges faced by countries like Latvia that are close to the conflict in Ukraine.

In Riga, I had separate meetings with the Prime Minister of , Krišjānis Kariņš, and with the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima (Parliament of Latvia), Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica.

Following the bilateral talks, President Egils Levits and I laid a wreath at the Freedom Monument in the Centre of Riga, commemorating those who were killed during the Latvian War of Independence.

We also discussed the current European and global issues, the war in Ukraine, the way ahead for a more secure and prosperous Europe, migration, and the situation in the Mediterranean.

My engagements in commenced this morning with an official meeting with President Egils Levits at the Riga Palace. We had an interesting discussion, amongst others, on the good relationship and constructive cooperation between our two countries.

It was a pleasure to join the Tunisian community in Malta to celebrate the National Day of the Republic of Tunisia. and have had a close relationship for centuries. Our proximity made it possible to have a lasting bond that was built through people-to-people ties.

HSBC Bank Malta, together with another eight companies & one school, will be participating in the 19th edition of Day. For the next 2 weeks, hundreds of employees & students will be donating their time to give assistance to various NGOs.

Earlier today, I attended the Mabel Strickland Memorial Lecture organised by The Strickland Foundation and Casino Maltese. This year’s lecture titled “Malta in a Changing European Landscape” was delivered by Dr Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.

Miriam and I attended a Solemn TeDeum Mass on the tenth anniversary of the Pontificate of H.H. Pope Francis and the first anniversary of the Apostolic visit to Malta and Gozo, celebrated by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
