During a courtesy call by the National Council of the Elderly, accompanied by the Hon. Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Active Ageing, I heard about the work carried out by this same Council to promote the rights of the elderly and reduce discrimination.

It was a pleasure to attend the opening of the Last Supper display at the Domus Pius IX in Cospicua, where I could appreciate the delicate work of art, most of which made of salt and rice.

These traditions are not only an important part of our faith but also of our culture.

I received a courtesy call by Ararat Mirzoyan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of #Armenia. We discussed the bilateral relations between our two countries & agreed that there is room for the establishment & consolidation of contacts in a number of sectors, such as trade & education.

Yesterday I attended the opening of the exhibition ‘l-Akbar Ġrajja’ in Qormi. I enjoyed meeting Mr Paul Zammit, who told me that he started this exhibition 29 years ago with the help of his parents. I would like to thank them again for their donation in aid of the MCCF.

The Office of the President & the Maltese language organisations launched a digital booklet with information about the Maltese language & useful resources for students. This digital booklet will be accessed through a QR code on bookmarks that will be distributed to all students.

Just attended the last performance of The Sound of Music at Astra Theatre in Gozo.
Well done and congrats to all involved...organisers, cast, and all supporting staff.
Professionalism shone through. Theatre at its best.

Yesterday, Miriam and I enjoyed meeting with the patients and their relatives who helped in the organisation and on the day of l-Istrina 2022.

In Riga, I visited the company TILDE which specialises in language technology based on artificial intelligence. I was given an insight into how this company is collaborating with the University of Malta, MITA, and the Office of the State Advocate.

We held a detailed discussion on the security situation in the Mediterranean & latest developments in Southern partners, the ongoing process leading to the accession to the EU of Westen Balkan countries, and the situation of migration in Malta and Latvia.

The engagements in #Latvia continued this morning. Accompanied by the delegation, Miriam and I visited the National Library of Latvia.

I presented a number of books about Malta: the festa, Maltese literature, history, Valletta, and a book in Maltese.

In my speech, I remarked that the tracks on which #Malta & #Latvia have developed are increasingly similar, despite the different geographic and regional contexts. Very importantly, our peoples come closer at all levels, and are nowadays pivotal to the depth of our ties.
