Should we also mirror ~500 #nonprofits listed in the #EU transparency register? (Trade associations included.)

@ton Discussion on whether to include such links from #Wikidata items.

The fixes are here! ✨ #Mastodon 3.5.1 is out, fixing some issues in the last release:
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v3.5.1
Notably, instead of having to enter a code sent by e-mail to login from a new IP address, you'll now just get notified about a new sign-in.
@ton Now at least there's something in https://respublicae.eu/explore (still populating).
OK, so all issues have been solved and instances are working. About half of the instances have already been updated to v3.5.0.
The rest of the update will be going much slower and probably only tomorrow it will finish.
There will still be another restart (15 seconds of downtime) even on instances that have already been updated, just to make sure I didn't miss any instance when I corrected this problem manually.
@trumpet Thanks! It has worked.
@s8n Ok. Sorry for federating posts not of interest for your instance.
(The posting rate should level out in the coming days.)
@ton Good idea. Most of the accounts are already in Wikidata, I'm still cleaning some mistakes I found there and I'll link the query then.
I'm not sure how to add all European Commission handles on Wikidata because not all offices and initiatives have their own item. Maybe I can just upload a CSV to Zenodo under CC-0. (I also wrote the EC asking that they do it themselves.)
@ton Good question... As a local user I can see them on the #Mastodon explore page.
https://respublicae.eu/web/explore/tags
Are non-local or non-logged-in users only able to see the top 3 trending hashtags?
I'm also hoping that something will start showing up here at some point but I'm not sure what the requirements are:
https://respublicae.eu/explore
@trumpet Thanks! I applied.

What about adding your #Mastodon instance to the #ActivityPub relay https://relay.social.tigwali.fr , so we can hopefully connect a bunch of #EU-based users better? 😇
FYI @nouts
Seems to work! I can see some #IPCC / #GIEC updates at e.g. https://mastouille.fr/tags/GIEC
I have now joined a handful #ActivityPub #relays (thank you for the service!).
https://mastodon-relay.thedoodleproject.net
https://relay.libranet.de
https://relay.minecloud.ro
https://relay.social.tigwali.fr
(Found via https://github.com/brodi1/activitypub-relays .)
This understandably has caused a load spike, let's see how it goes.
I have no idea what's the #federation status of this #Mastodon instance at the moment.
There seem to be no backlogs: updates are sent immediately to followers on other instances like mamot.fr. However, most searches of profiles by name and toots by tag from other instances return nothing so far.
This will probably improve over time as people start interacting with more profiles discovered by some accident of history or by following mentions from bigger profiles.
At the moment all profiles here are marked as posting to English, the default interface language.
It will take some tinkering and/or elbow grease to update the preferences of at least the busiest profiles like @Europarl_FR @Europarl_DE @europarl_it @europarl_es @Europarl_PL @europainitalia.
Marking #languages correctly is important so that people can filter by their preferred languages and have a seamless experience even if they don't speak English.
ResPublicae.eu has launched! We want to make it easier to join the #EU policy discourse on the #fediverse.
For now we just mirror on #Mastodon about 1500 #Twitter accounts of EU officials and MEPs as listed by Wikidata and https://european-union.europa.eu/contact-eu/social-media-channels_en.
Example topics:
https://respublicae.eu/tags/IPCC
https://respublicae.eu/tags/EPlenary
Special thanks to @mastohost for the excellent service and @robertoszek for being so helpful with #Stork / #pleromabot.
