The EP has now an official position on STM, which the EU Commission will build upon to ultimately propose 🇪🇺 STM regulation.
We demanded that this will happen before 2024.

While space might seem infinite, the space in earth's proximity is not.
Skyrocketing numbers of 🛰️ increase the risk of collision💥, which endangers the use of space for all.
That's why we need traffic rules for #space.

✅invest more in research on space debris removal
✅own 🇪🇺 STM legislation before 2024
✅🇪🇺 to push for international regulation 🇺🇳
The number of objects in lower earth orbit is skyrocketing 🚀📈
Those can be active satellites like Starlink or space debris. Risk of collision💥📈
But there is no unified system to register & monitor objects in space.
Not globally, not in the EU.
Following a communication of the European Commission @defis_eu on the topic, we lay down in which direction the EU should move.
