It was a fruitful meeting with Mieko Tanno, Chairperson of @PPC_JPN.
In 2019, the EU 🇪🇺 and Japan 🇯🇵 created the world’s largest area of free and safe data flows.
Today we welcomed the positive assessment of the first joint review of our adequacy decisions for data flows ⤵️

Our joint review confirms that our decision is working well, benefitting businesses and citizens alike.
Our arrangement shows that free data flows and trust, can and should be, two sides of the same coin.
I am pleased that 🇯🇵 will engage on this issue in the G7 Presidency.

Building on our achievement, @PPC_JPN Chair and I discussed avenues to expand the scope of our adequacy decision to cover the public sector and academia.
