@GilesWoodruff That's incorrect. Improvements in science/technology come from diverting money to those things. It doesn't require growth except when the useful money is being hoarded by the rich. The 1% want us to believe that we must work harder for them if we're to get anything. False.

RT @Duncan_BBR: While there is much resistance to - and much enthusiasm for - it may surprise people to discover that economics' own case that 'growth is the solution' for climate change is not very strong at all - challenged both empirically and conceptually. 🧵 t.co/jA8au7hxNa

RT @DegrowthVienna: Why do we need to abandon economic growth? And why is important for people and planet?

Do you still think economic growth is something that improves something? What exactly can it improve and have you checked whether it was a mistake?

RT @JKSteinberger: Topics covered planetary boundaries, trade, finance, fiscal policy, global South, decolonisation, gender, justice, well-being, social policies. Every panel included major advances in understanding. Together, the conference represents a monumental coming of…

RT @ZoeatShine: Great to be in person at

But not so great to hear opening from president of European parliament talking about economic growth!!

A ripple of wtf went around the auditorium, especially from the hundreds of young people...

No sorry, it's not whacky. It was an event in the European Parliament because it's urgent, important and mainstream. It's the people still stuck in a "growth is good" mentality who are nuts.
RT @spignal: Some of this "de-growth" stuff is anodyne, for example calling on policymakers to look beyond just GDP as a gauge of economic success (spoiler alert: already happening)
But the hard-core of the movement is pretty whacky. And they got the run of the European Parlia…

RT @ZackPolanski: 💚 Let's talk about the freedom to not own a car.

🫁 The freedom to be able to breathe air because it's clean.

🚍 The freedom to have decent, affordable and regular public transport options. t.co/iqdqLQT6IE

Completely fails to understand that unless you remove the cars most people have no choice whatsoever, and the people who need cars are also stuck in traffic jams, so no one benefits. This is truly shameful and ignorant. The Tories completely fail to understand what freedom is.
RT @Mark_J_Harper: Our latest round of Active Travel Fund winners focus on projects that give people more choice over how they travel, not banning cars from places 👇

RT @exilefromgroggs: Graduates have to pay a marginal tax rate of about 50% on income over the loan repayment and higher tax threshold.

How about people pay 50% tax on increased wealth over say £10m? Is that unreasonable?

RT @BylinesEast: Nationally Labour did well through a combination of targeting, deals (mostly tacit) with other parties, and Tory vote losses to other parties. But the real story of the night was the rise of other parties.

@JarrodHart @Andrew_F_Smith Yes, there are other things that can be applied globally, though, that are proven and simple, such as equal distribution of wealth, and ending the use of private jets. Oh, and keeping fossil fuels in the ground.
