You can't cut waiting lists or get people seen in hospitals unless you can fill the vacances for nurses and doctors, and that means raising their pay and making working conditions realistic not manic. That costs money. Public spending. Not reducing the debt. Not austerity.

Sunak's speech is full of incoherence. You can't create more better paid jobs unless you've got a surplus workforce, especially if you're refusing to raise wages in the public sector. Losing all your workers from the public sector is no way to solve the fact that nothing works.

RT @bectu: A huge win for @Channel4, public service broadcasting & our creative industries.

We strongly opposed plans to sell and are thrilled it will stay in public hands.

71% in both cases opting for the lesser of two evils while aware of the failings of the one they had to choose. The world is never going to be perfect, but it could be a whole lot better if the cards weren't always stacked to give a choice between the least attractive options.

RT @aeyles21: Interesting that Sunak is pushing maths, especially as nothing he says currently adds up.

@elwoodpam @robertlargan Interesting that he thinks he's more likely to get elected if we mistake him for a Green 🤣
He's probably right.

Putting out a green leaflet doesn't stop the sewage party being the sewage party. Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing!

Remember Sunak as chancellor in the covid period? Sunak never wanted to protect health. He always wanted to open up for economic activity, against the science. He didn't understand that the economy is ruined when you ruin the health of your workforce. bmj.com/content/379/bmj.o2715

RT @CouldBeKel: As we enter 2023, the outlook is bleak. Nurses, teachers, rail workers, posties, technicians, bus drivers, civil servants, junior doctors — across society, workers are taking the impossible decision to stand on picket lines, withdraw their labour, and demand better. 1/10

@yrieithydd @ButcherMartin It was another example of a binary referendum on a topic where the issue was not binary and it was not right to defend the status quo nor to promote the alternative. Because neither was a good choice.

How did you vote in the Brexit referendum? To leave because it would restore sovereignty and get rid of foreigners? To leave because the EU is a neoliberal capitalist organisation? To stay because the EU is perfect? To stay because the EU is not perfect but better than nothing?

@ChrisJHutch74 Except you did because you thought they were taking jobs and lowering wages, and that things would be better if there wasn't a supply of available labour to import.

How did you vote in the electoral reform referendum in 2011? No, because you wanted to keep first past the post? No, because you wanted change but AV wasn't good enough? Yes because although you wanted something better, AV was better than nothing?
