RT @garethbouch: @sturdyAlex Would be nice if Sky kept the slot open for the leaders of Greens, Labour, Lib Dems, SNP and Plaid to discuss the issues currently facing us.
Strictly speaking that could still be called a “leadership contest debate”.

RT @sturdyAlex: Tory HQ was reportedly instrumental at pulling the plug on the remaining leadership debate.

Initially, the thinking had been that the country should get to know the candidates. Later, the worry became that the country would get to know the candidates

We need to be rid of Johnson. How many of his tory MPs see what kind of dangerous monster they have got there? He's not going to leave gracefully. He needs to be heaved out lock stock and barrel now.

@BylinesEast Note that the bars needn't be wrapped at all. We definitely need to stop using plastic, but it won't solve the climate emergency. It'll help solve the plastic waste crisis. That's crucial too, but don't imagine you've done your bit if you buy soap in cardboard.

@RuthBergan If we were still in the EU every trade deal would go to Westminster parliament for scrutiny. Anyone smell a rat? 🧐

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@MichaelBerry12 Yes, our parliament (and hence we) had more say in the decisions when we were in the EU. They had to be passed by every member state parliament and some regional parliaments too.
We've been had.

RT @RuthBergan: Exactly. Yet is about to pass with no parliamentary debate, despite govt assessments showing an increase in emissions as a result

@Nordfolcian In those days we thought it was hot if it made it to 80ºF. Now we're looking at 100ºF.

It's no good saying we're doing OK. We're not doing OK as long as Africa is getting too hot. You know what? We need to collaborate globally on reaching drastic reductions to net negative across the 🌏. E.g. work with & through the EU, and prioritise climate in trade agreements.

It's no good saying "we did our bit". We offshored our emissions so it looked as if we'd cut our carbon and methane and dirty fuels. We decided not to count shipping or aviation, which is increasing. We didn't count the imported wood for Drax because we called it carbon neutral.

Today England is hot because Europe is hot and the weather is coming up across a very hot continent. Europe is hot because Africa is hot and the weather is coming up from a very hot continent. This is deadly for everyone.
It's no good saying "we did our bit".

In hot weather, sweating to keep cool is natural and good. Remember that sweating requires salts as well as water. Olives and some salty ewe's cheese makes a good hot weather choice 😊

RT @DavidHenigUK: PS I'm reminded that there was one element of EU financial services regulation that the UK was less happy with - the caps on bonuses. Surely we can't be tearing up all our financial services regulations just to allow bankers to be paid more...?

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

RT @DavidHenigUK: Big difference in philosophy now, most best practice suggests regulation is set in a consultative manner with extensive engagement, but the UK government thinks it should be at the whim of Ministers and who they last spoke with.

Bypassing parliamentary scrutiny for this destructive and inappropriate trade deal with Australia that will ruin British farmers, as if they weren't already struggling with Brexiting and climate change problems.
RT @receiptkeepers: Week 61 - 17/07/2022:

Ministers to break promise to give MPs a final say before approving trade deal with Australia

Is she lying already? Will we stand for more lies?
RT @lara_spirit: Liz Truss claims she opposed the National Insurance rise in Cabinet.

Former cabinet ministers around the table say that’s categorically untrue.

RT @EuropeanPowell: ERG also has a 2nd bank account for private donations, the extent of their funding runs into the millions. Tax payer money was crucial to ERG's success. Westminster 'regulator' looked the other way. Brexit was forced by a cartel of far right libertarians and disaster capitalists
