@DavidRobjant Yes unions as well as individuals were utterly deceived and blinded by their own imagined picture of what the UK would be like in solitary isolation. I don't blame the current workers for that.

They got cross when P&O sacked staff without consulting unions, and tried to bring in cheaper agency staff. Did actually care about worker protections, trade union rights/obligations, the right to negotiate adequate pay & conditions, and safety at work?
Or no?

@NICKJD22 @BBCBreakfast Train drivers are in ASLEF not RMT. This strike is about other workers. As a matter of interest, how much do you earn and did you get a pay rise this year? Did you need a pay rise?

RT @blaurock: I don't drive. I depend on public transport. Without the trains I'm separated from my family. I support the strike 100%, for all rail workers and their families. @GreenPartyTU

RT @Redpeter99: Should use an employment agency to find replacement Cabinet ministers at short notice. Can't believe they'd be any worse than the deadbeats in post at the moment.

Shame on the V & A, complete with wealthy Russian donors, being wined and dined for the sake of the funds they keep pouring in. What for? To ensure that the UK descends into shambolic corruption and decline and culture wars and undermines European values.
RT @ByDonkeys: Tonight the @V_and_A museum is hosting the Conservatives’ lavish summer fundraising party. It shouldn’t be happening.

Let's see Tiverton and Honiton do the radical and transformative thing! Choose solutions, not problems.
RT @Gill4Greens: My discussion with @radioexe on the by-election focused on:
🏠lack of affordable housing
🚌problems with rural transport
✏under spending on education
and of course

💚Greens have positive solutions to all these

RT @GreenPartyMolly: In Germany government is subsidizing public transport to ease cost of living and address climate crisis

In UK government is withdrawing cash from railway ensuring that ticket prices rise

Publicly owned and properly funded railway is an essential part of tackling climate crisis

And another thing. The media are not allowed to mention Brexit so I will.
Inflation is worse here because of Brexit. This government has no strategy for food security or energy security. Low wages are not part of a strategy and won't help. In fact they make it worse.

RT @catherinerowett: Fortunately for the RMT they are in a service whose withdrawal is hugely inconvenient. That enables them to make clear just how important it is to have a good reliable and clean train system, for the economy, for key workers, for schools and young people.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

We need affordable railways. We need cleaning staff and platform staff who can afford to live. We need to retain highly skilled drivers. If you run down the service it becomes less viable not more. If you're short of staff the trains get cancelled. Get you to the picket lines!

And it should be painfully obvious to everyone that the workers should not be asked to repay the subsidies needed during covid to keep trains on the rails for those commuters and travellers. Nor should workers anywhere be paying for the government's corrupt and misdirected funds.

That neither teachers nor doctors were on furlough.

They worked (even harder) throughout the pandemic and at higher risk…and bear the scars for it.

RT @PaulbernalUK: Here, the far right just gets a controlling stake in the not-quite-so-far-right party, so controls the government. Don’t be afraid of PR.

RT @catherinerowett: If you don't like , get on with making a suitable offer for the workers. It's that simple. If you're not the employer, campaign with the workers till something gets done. And let's have British back in public ownership, serving the people who need them.

In case anyone is unclear why the rail union is on strike this week and why the Green Party supports them ~and you might well be because the government and media are doing their utmost to conceal what they are striking about ~take a look here rmt.org.uk/news/rmt-statement/

RT @JolyonMaugham: Are the agency staff Grant Shapps wants to hire to undercut the right of rail workers to a decent wage the same agency staff as P&O Ferries hired to undercut the right of ferry workers to a decent wage?
