Today I presented the draft report “#Parlamentarism, European #citizenship and #democracy”, together with co-rapporteur @nnienass.
This report can easily become the foundation of what I like to call European #Democracy2.0. It's based on three pillars, as follows:

We call for additional powers for the @europarl_en. This House should be granted direct right of legislative initiative & full competences on budget.

The @europarl_en and the Council need to be on an equal footing in order to create the basis of a true bicameral Parliament, as well as end the practice of unanimity voting

- we called for an EU Statute of Citizenship, that will clarify and consolidate citizen-specific rights and freedoms;
- better information for non-national Union citizens regarding their rights to #vote or run for office in municipal and European #elections;

- establishing a permanent representative deliberative mechanism, the European Agora, that will deliberate on the CAWP and the specific issue of the European Year;

- a Youth component of the Agora that will form a European Youth Assembly, which will also monitor the application of the #youthcheck in EU legislation;
- all participatory instruments should be available in a “one stop shop” to facilitate their use by EU citizens.
