RT @Joe_Morris91: Interesting to read this. Timber is a foundation of local economies across Northumberland - Govt can and should do more to promote innovative, environmentally friendly construction both here at home and allow us to export expertise around the world

If you are interested in where UK farming is at - trails & tribulations, threats & opportunities - here are three good reads. The future of our land use is neither black or white, rather multiple shades of grey.

@SustainableTall @WaughThistleton I’m not sure re ‘sustainable’ as it’s a bit of a vague term. But per metre square of new office space created it may well have the lowest embodied carbon footprint in London & hence probably the UK.

Obviously climate change = bad news.
But also bad news for Putin = good.
RT @ScottDuncanWX: We just observed the warmest January day on record for many countries in Europe.

Truly unprecedented in modern records.

The view of the mouth of the River Tyne from inside the old coastguard station.
It's a shame the building can't be used in some way. Access an issue.

I’d always assumed that this look out tower at Tynemouth had been built in the backyard by a fellow whose ‘shed’ building hobby had got the better of him. Turns out it was built by the military to direct the firing of the guns at the Priory in the event of an attack on the Tyne.

A rare photograph of the elusive broccoli tree in its natural habitat.
RT @LanesTree: To finish the year, my favourite picture of the year. A fantastic sycamore towers over the lane at Borwick Fold, near Staveley.
Happy New Year to all.

RT @suesustainable: @SustainableTall Every new home should have a thermal image survey done AND supplied as part of the information package to potential buyers.

Stoltenberg is correct. Appeasement won’t work with Putin.
RT @Flash_news_ua: ⚡️"It may sound paradoxical, but military support for Ukraine is the fastest way to peace," — said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, — Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports.

The benefits of agroforestry were presented at the recent UN climate change talks in Egypt by Australian sheep farmer Mark Wootton. Significant tree planting has increased meat production not reduced it, plus a new timber income = win-win. @AFPAonline

Good to see agroforestry being positively promoted in the excellent Rooted by ⁦⁦@wigsandwords⁩. Rightly mentioned in ‘despatches’ ⁦@Farm3Dwithtrees⁩ ⁦@wakelyns⁩ ⁦& ⁦@hanslope⁩

@Graemewhitfield @john_tomaney Lightly written but carrying a heavy hard hit. It's been like this all my life in the NE. I was in 1A at Norham High School, North Shields in 1974. Eight streamed classes in each year group. Out of that 'top class' only three of us when to university yet they were all capable.

@Geenimetsuri The felled trees are replanted. The new young trees begin the sequestration process all over again. Over time the carbon stored in the forest + long life products (ie wooden buildings) stores more carbon than the forest alone. See: nature.com/articles/s41893-019

@SteveMcfirerisk The ‘tried and tested methods of construction’ you refer to are responsible for huge carb
