Framing the forestry story as a key part of the battle against climate change will be key to winning over public opinion. Wood’s ability to sequester & store carbon is impressive plus it can substitute for carbon intensive alternatives eg concrete & steel. @TimberDevUK @CEIBois

As a single oneoff action insulating your loft must be one of the most significant climate actions you can take. But to maximise its climate impact you need to use a nature based material that stores carbon eg wood fibre, hemp, mycelium. Mineral wool, polystyrene stores no carbon

There is a growing body of evidence that if planted astutely in an agroforestry setting then 10% tree cover on a farm will not result in reduced food production. It will boost biodiversity & production of woody biomass see @Farm3Dwithtrees & https://www.jigsawfarms.com.au/ @Agroforestry https://t.co/JBxq04fM1r
<div class="rsshub-quote">
Chris Jones: Weirdly that 10% if spread across the piece would achieve the tree numbers target and making grazing easier to manage and better ecological function all round. It's as if Bangor had not spent 40 years researching, trialling and demonstrating #agroforestry in Wales.

Re @SustainableTall Any figures for how much carbon straw stores compared to say wood fibre or hemp? That the straw is in a wooden frame must mean the collective stored carbon for this kind of build is fairly high.

From a climate perspective this is lunacy on stilts. These pallets could all be reused as pallets or recycled to make wood products such what most of us call chipboard. They could also be chipped and used for a variety of garden uses.
<div class="rsshub-quote">
Mark Emmerson: The average pallet contains ~27kg of carbon - Craigyhill uses about 15k pallets or 405 metric tonnes of Carbon. An A320 flying Belfast to London carries 183 people at ~0.14 tCarbon per passenger. Meaning the bonfire emits more carbon than 25 full flights fm London to Belfast!
