@SustainableTall @bibivanderzee there is a story here. 1 We need to insulate. 2 We aren't. 3 Even if we did we'd use the 'wrong' materials. 4 UK gov haven't given it any thought, see questions-statements.parliamen

Insulation, insulation, insulation should be the political priority but not all insulation materials are the same. Some are 'a cure almost as bad as the disease'. Worth noting that only 'wood fiber board' is in the green zone. @CEIBois @europanels_EPF @SueHayman1 @WKWales
RT @SustainableTall: Which insulation most effectively reduces whole-life carbon?

“XPS insulation was significantly the highest emitting. The embodied carbon o…

RT @TimeForTimber: More than 100 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions could be saved by 2100 if housing construction switches to timber instead of conventional steel and concrete, a new study by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PICIR) shows. eandt.theiet.org/content/artic

@ArielBrunner This proposal is based on research from the highly respected Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. It deserves a more considered response than an accusation of being 'flat-earth'. It will be impossible to decarbonise the built environment without increasing harvesting.

Timber cities ‘could cut 100bn tons of CO2 emissions by 2100’. This is what the European wood industries have been arguing for, excellent to see. @CEIBois @europanels_EPF @TimberDevUK @STAtimber @forestsandwood @Wood_for_Good

RT @RHarrabin: A good day indeed for the environment. Outrageous that it’s taken so long

RT @RichardHCNourse: My friend @DuncanLamont2 posted this earlier today and I feel so miserable seeing it again. This plus the decision to abandon efficiency standards on new housing are big components of why we now find ourselves where we find ourselves.

We've two massive new modular home factories coming in Europe, Nokera in Germany & TopHat in the UK. Both companies have opted for wood as their structural material

@everydayacoust1 I’m not inclined to reply to comments issued by people who don’t use their real name. Who are you?

@LouiseCStewart1 ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. I see a landscape that is probably, correct me if I’m wrong, falling short on its potential to store carbon.

We need to insulate, insulate, insulate (but not with materials made by burning large amounts of fossil fuel which is how we currently make 99% of existing insulation materials).
England’s housing strategy would blow entire carbon budget, says study theguardian.com/environment/20

@herdyshepherd1 Also worth noting that Chapter 4 of Regenesis by @GeorgeMonbiot discusses the benefits of woodchips with both Ben & George learning from Iain Tolhurst, Tolly, a vegetable & fruit grower on the Hardwick Estate overlooking the River Thames near the Chilterns.

@herdyshepherd1 @copseworker Try adding woodchip on the surface of the soil around the newly planted tree. For the science & thinking see Chapter 5 of @Ben_Raskin 's The Woodchip Handbook. It's all to do with Ramial Chipped Wood which you can probably source from your own farm, 'all' you need is a chipper.

@joffe_deb @NewStatesman Good observation.
Any suggestions? Simply drop the ‘man’? We could do with a new state … of most things, especially government.

@MMC_Shepherd @TopHatIO @TimberDevUK Excellent to hear your modular units are timber framed. And what type of insulation have you gone for?

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/PaulBrannenNE/status

Note the use of a mobile crane. A major cost on a traditional building site is that of the fixed crane. As wood is lighter than steel & concrete a cheaper mobile crane can be used. And modular construction on site is fast as @MMC_Shepherd notes, again pushing crane costs down.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/PaulBrannenNE/status

Excellent to hear @TopHatIO have opted for timber frames for their modular homes, homes that will be built for @BoklokUK who in turn are a subsidiary of IKEA & the construction firm Skanska. @CEIBois @TimberDevUK
RT @MMC_Shepherd: Amazing progress on the @TopHatIO site at Kitchener Barracks. Over 80 modules delivered and installed in 2 weeks.
