Agree with Guy it's a fine view. However is this optimum land use? It maybe. But then maybe not. Land needs to support food & wood production, plus carbon capture & biodiversity +recreation. Whose doing the sums? We have no UK land use strategy. @NEE_CCo @NE_Northumbria @NlandNP

@marju_silander @omakotiliitto @Hirsikoti @Sahateollisuus @RASI_yhdistys @PTTryfi This is a 2014 evaluation but little has changed since. Virtually all insulation materials used in Europe are manufactured directly or indirectly from fossil fuels. So while they do a green job they are not green materials. A shift to wood fibre is needed.

RT @andyheald: To tackle the climate crisis, we will need a lot more timber & fibre.
That will mainly come from plantation forestry. 🌲
To tackle the nature crises, we need a lot more natural woodland. 🌳

It isn’t a choice between the two. 🤷🏽‍♀️

@ImoSykes @MoreOurselves @guardian @helena_bennett_ Yes - BUT - 99% of insulation materials have an extremely high embodied carbon level ie their manufacture involves burning fossil fuels. Result, one third of climate benefit is lost. Wood fibre needed instead.
