RT @Minette_Batters: The question we all want answered @annietrev is what is the role of Parliament in ratifying future FTA agreements? The bypassing of our democracy on the Australian FTA is an utter betrayal to the UK.

RT @AliDriverUK: @PhilipCaseFW @Minette_Batters That’s only because we have a lot more grassland in the UK (40%) than woodland (12%). Woodlands on average store much more carbon per hectare than grassland as Minette knows very well. Here’s the latest evidence for carbon storage by habitat type.

I visited the HoHo while it was under construction. It is both safely storing a large amount of carbon in the timber it contains AND the engineered timbers are substituting for concrete & steel both big CO2 emitters. UK off track.

@ericslackhouse @JanetHughes @EdenSwimmer @BainbridgeFarms Painful yes, but as Naomi Klein put it, climate breakdown 'changes everything'. If our landscape looks the same in 2050 then we are lost. Hence the land must produce food, store more carbon, grow more wood fibre & increase biodiversity. Three farms = three new opportunities.

This is an accurate review of @GeorgeMonbiot's new book. Monbiot's observation that we really need a land use strategy will get wide support. The divergence comes when we try to agree 'used for what?' That sheep currently have 22% of land in return for 1% of our food is striking.
