Congratulations to Newcastle University this is an important accolade to receive & hopefully will make the university an even more attractive place to study & teach. By no means an easy achievement, well done all.

👏 Well, lets scale up!

@vonderleyen The quickest, easiest & cheapest way to drive down the use of Russian fossil fuels is better insulation of European buildings. BUT we mustn’t use high carbon materials to do this WHICH IS WHAT WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING = climate madness @ArchitectsCAN @WHurst1 @asbp_uk @CEIBois

As you’d guess wood is big in Sweden. Economically at the heart of their national economy hence their wood conferences take the main stage - literally. I make my appearance at the start of the second act & after the King closes the first. ⁦@Skogsindustrin⁩ ⁦@CEIBois⁩

@KWitecka @Jude_KD I'm all for CCS, it's a proven 'technology' as demonstrated by the world's forests daily. Not sure how you get from 20% to 80%? Either way we simply must use less concrete if we are serious about decarbonising the built environment as it's responsible for 8% of global emissions.

@JacobAlfieri @WHurst1 @MarketUrbanism It is not more expensive to build in timber in Europe. Rather the construction industry in Europe is very conservative. It builds the way it does because it's the way it builds. But it's slowly changing. To address climate change change has to be fast. Big four wooden buildings:

RT @mendipfarmer: This Hawthorne hedge is 4yrs old this month, it’s up to 10ft high at the tips, the easiest thing to plant, super fast growing & massively satisfying. Birds are just moving in for the season. If you only do one thing for the environment - plant a bit of hedge. @FavColour_Green

@ROCKWOOLGroup We won’t save energy if we use lots of energy to make carbon intensive insulation material like Rockwool. Instead we need to use more nature based materials especially wood which can also store carbon @NielsFuglsang

Why not double up with others such as @forestsandwood & campaign for an overall tree target both native & commercial trees? We need both to tackle climate change, one category alone won't work. Without conifers we can't decarbonise the built environment-replace concrete @WKWales
RT @WoodlandTrust: We need well-connected woodlands, rich in native , that fight climate change and help nature to recover🌳

RT @RosieP4: Did you know: there are 250,000 hectares of south facing COMMERCIAL roof space in the UK? This could provide approximately 50% of the UK’s electricity demand. (Source: BRE National Solar Centre). Add to that domestic roof space. No excuse to use best farmland. Use it for food!
