➡️Reducing the risk and the use of pesticides: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/fs_2…
And the EU will help to achieve this all ➡️ for 5 years, Common Agricultural Policy can support farmers to cover the costs of the transition.
We propose:
☑️A legally binding target of 50% less chemical pesticides by 2030
☑️Farmers to practice Integrated Pest Management:
➡️consider all alternative pest control methods 1st
➡️chemical pesticides only as last resort
➡️banning pesticides in public parks, playgrounds, etc
📣Today we also make a major step to deliver on the Farm to Fork Strategy objective of a fair, healthy and environmentally respectful food system. We are proposing new rules to reduce the use and risk of #pesticides in the EU. #EUFarm2Fork
Damaged nature is very costly. Soil erosion alone already costs the EU 3 million tonnes of wheat per year. Without pollinating insects we would lose at least 25% of crops.
➡️National Restoration Plans will be designed with all concerned citizens so everyone benefits.
Nature restoration brings €8 in value for every €1 spent. It's key for Europe's resilience.
Why? Some examples:
➡️Pollinators, healthy soils, clean water put food on our plates
➡️Peatlands absorb carbon
➡️Trees keep us cool in heatwaves
➡️Thriving nature brings tourism
President @vonderleyen said we need an economic model that gives back to nature more than it takes.
Today we are proposing a key step. A Nature Restoration Law to gradually repair European nature: remove pollution, green up cities, restore degraded soil and landscapes...
