Instead of finding new sources & suppliers of fossil fuels, the EU should achieve energy security for all 27 Member States by investing in renewables & power based on fusion based technologies. 👇

As Russia is ready to weaponize energy against Europe, it is vital to cut our dependence on Russian energy asap.
While sanctions against Russia are justified, the EU must help Member States that are exposed.

While Orbán's propaganda insists on the great merits of fixed energy prices, Hungarians should recall the disasterous consequences of a similar experiment of the Communist regime in the 70s - the biggest debt in our history. But also the collapse of a regime - something positive.

For Hungary the lesson of the current crisis should be clear: dependence on Russian energy is dangerous & leaves us exposed. We have a full year & the support of the EU to change course & find alternative sources.
Orbán's veto is self-destructive, irresponsible & short-sighted.

In a debate with @vonderleyen @europarl_en on the new EU sanctions against Russia I stressed the importance of widening sanctions to include nuclear energy.
Russia can't be relied upon, Hungary must pull out of its controversial Paks deal with Rosatom!

Calls by the Biden administration to persecute Putin for war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine are justified.

It took only 4 days for Orbán to make a complete U-turn on his most important promises in his campaign.
While claiming he will veto any sanctions on Russian gas & oil, the Paks deal & uphold the arms embargo to the Ukraine, his MEPs supported the EP resolution on sanctions.
