For the first time ever we have managed to include maritime pollution, incineration, buildings and road transport in the Emissions Trading System.

Today we are voting on potentially the biggest emission killer in the EU toolbox - the Emissions Trading System.
Currently taxpayers pay for many of the impacts of emissions - climate change, pollution, healthcare, cost of living.
Polluters must pay and innovators rewarded.

Great work here in keeping up the pressure on Greece to drop the charges that still hang over Seán Binder, Sara Mardini and others.

@daveirl Really good question! Unfortunately we produce 180kg of packaging waste per person every year and it's still increasing 😧. Plastic is so cheap to produce it's worth it for retailers and industry. But they're not the ones paying to dispose of it afterwards - we are!

@medem05 @europeangreens @GreensEFA @greenparty_ie Too often there is no option in supermarkets and shops unfortunately but to buy products wrapped in plastic in the big supermarket chains. Many Irish people don't have the option of going to farmers' markets and greengrocers.
