Fair comment
RT @NeilMackay: I’d advise all fellow anti-monarchists that if they can’t say anything kind and decent right now then they should maintain a respectful silence. We may not like the institution of monarchy but all human beings - especially an elderly lady - deserve our empathy and fellow-feeling.
Hmm. Keeping all sides happy not going to work IMO. Net Zero targets being reviewed by a supporter of Net Zero targets hardly seems like a serious approach.
RT @guardian: Liz Truss appoints green Tory Chris Skidmore to lead net zero review https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/sep/08/liz-truss-appoints-green-tory-chris-skidmore-to-lead-net-zero-review?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=twt_gu&utm_medium&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1662635541
LONG, LONG OVERDUE. But reasons to be cheerful if true.
RT @benrileysmith: 🚨BREAKING: The fracking ban will be scrapped **tomorrow**. Planning requests for new drilling expected within weeks. Major change in UK energy rules. More in @Telegraph.
So important. Let's make sure that the new Government knows censorship fears we all have in terms of #OnlineSafetyBill

I asked a question on crisis in the NHS. Both government & opposition swap competing stats, but problems go far deeper than cuts, resources & overstretched health staff. (EG read devastating Guardian article on the preventable death of the author's 13-year-old daughter Martha.)
I'm back in the Lords this week - with a quick question on the cons of being a leaseholder. People think they're buying homes, and buying into Liz Truss' home-owning democracy. But in reality, they are nothing more than glorified renters. It's a con. Someone alert the new PM.
Nasty, unkind, petty. Scottish government really are masters of unnecessary, meanspirited authoritarianism

Bad news for Welsh parents. And awful precedent for UK parents in general.

Hmm. LGBTQ...as a wealthy global brand. Who'd have thought it?
RT @pressgazette: .@PinkNews started as a side hustle for founder @benjamincohen and is now a global brand boasting £2m annual profit. Here he offers lessons for other publishers on how the LGBTQ+ brand reaches a Gen Z audience https://pressgazette.co.uk/reaching-gen-z-pink-news/
Brazier Bunch a great title. @colinbrazierGBN - this is what we have all been waiting for, for months. Tales from the farm is going to be a smash hit! Exciting adventures ahead. Good luck.
RT @colinbrazierGBN: Me and my Brazier Bunch get to start a new chapter today. It may involve a tractor. Standby for updates.
Bloody excellent points here from @Ella_M_Whelan - relationship between Brexit's democratic spirit of taking back control & sentiment of #EnoughlsEnough and striking workers.
RT @GBNEWS: 'If our lives are ever going to get better, we must harness this spirit of revolt and channel it into real political change.'
Journalist and author Ella Whelan supports those who are striking over pay disputes, on today's Speakers Corner.
Great hire for @GBNEWS - good luck & congrats @OliviaUtley
RT @OliviaUtley: After 2 great years at The Telegraph, I’m off to @GBNEWS in October to join the politics team. I hugely admire what GB is doing - and it’s been brilliant watching it go from strength to strength. Very excited to get started 🤩
This is VERY sad. And as a daughter of a Tipperary mother, extra sad...
RT @ianvisits: The Tipperary on Fleet Street, the self-declared oldest Irish pub in London has closed down.
Depressing but @cjsnowdon has a point about previous over-reactions. Now facing a real crisis & we get cooing reassurance & no urgency. But not to succumb to fatalism, there are some grown-ups around with short & longterm ideas & solutions. Just too few of them in Westminster.
RT @cjsnowdon: A nation bankrupt because it treated problems as if they were crises and crises as if they were world wars. Two decades of stagnation, minimum.…
Sad in so many ways.
RT @staylorish: Noam Chomsky tells an Edinburgh Book Festival audience that Vladimir Putin should be given the benefit of the doubt on his motives for invading Ukraine, and that he (Chomsky) supports Scottish independence. The audience, which must be overwhelmingly idiots, whoops and cheers.
Be more lile the French may not be popular, but you can see Peter's point here...
RT @PeterTatchell: New Ofgem cap means poorest homes will spend up to 47% of income on energy. Why is the public so passive & letting this happen? Why can’t we Brits be like the French & protest to force government action? French energy price rise limited to 4% https://www.theguardian.com/money/2022/aug/26/ofgem-cap-poorest-homes-47-of-budget-on-energy…
Inside the Lords, outside in the rain. No parliament, lots of politics. An excuse to rant about Maitlis' BBC rant (I'm a veteran victim of Emily's sneer). Like so many insiders in institutions, no clue how viewed by outsiders. And Rishi's Lockdown excuses https://youtu.be/CSjhPguCF3U
But Sunak was "allowed to talk about the side effects of lockdown". He chose not to. Some did talk about inevitable collatoral damage. They were vilified. Also Rishi didn't speak out in their defence. Or even suggest need for open debate on pros & cons. Good speaking now. BUT...
RT @GBNEWS: Rishi Sunak says he wasn't 'allowed to talk about the side effects of lockdown' during the pandemic https://www.gbnews.uk/news/rishi-sunak-says-…
Just did #PM with @evanHD on @BBCRadio4 with @Samfr. Trying to unpick why it feels like the country going to hell in a handcart. Hyperbole doesn't help (for example, about the weather) and stops us solving serious issues - often coming from a feeling of a lack of control.
Something to be wary of. Unintended consequences of rent control...
RT @conorsvan1: Ireland launched a campaign against greedy landlords with rent control, 52% tax, no deductions, no evictions.
They succeeded & landlords left the market in droves
Now there are 716 homes available to rent in the entire country and 150 queued for this one bed yesterday.
