In the interest of balance, this is an interesting response to story
RT @jonathanshalit: As some one working at the core of UK TV and who also applied to be Chairman of the BBC. I can comment with some authority. There is NO mutiny and NO meaningful momentum for Richard Sharp to resign. He is highly regarded as the right man for job - telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/02/1

Well done, @PippyBing - excellent comments and conversation with @Iromg on @LeeAndersonMP_ controversy as well as problems with schools. UFO discussion left me bemused, but good fun.

This article on & dilemmas facing for @acadofideas substack by my colleague @jacobreynolds is a MUST READ. Really thought-provoking, raises challenges for debate, doesn't avoid hard questions for those of us supporting fight for Ukrainian sovereignty.

V good, if depressing, by Janet Daley. Her key qu at end of quote below:"But is it really true that there are no big questions to be discussed any longer?" She concludes there are still "huge, seminal issues of social conscience" but politcians don't want to engage. But WE should
RT @Telegraph: "All that we expect from political leaders now is competence, not transcendent visions of what society should be like. Maybe that is why they all seem to be so mediocre and…

Inside The Lords this wk: Zelensky comes to town – I’m firmly on side of Ukrainian fight for sovereignty but fair enough to worry re lack of debate. PLUS rows re EU Retained Law Bill (NB EU no friend to workers) & sheer snobbery in response to Lee Anderson clairefox.substack.com/p/insid

This is terrifying. To those who say on campus is some hyped-up culture war, read and weep. Being on left, being black, being an anti-racist - none of this protects you.

Canada is so fast becoming the very embodiment of intolerance. Worrying warning to rest of us about where imposed ideological conformity and coerced speech on any issue, not least gender ideology, can lead.

A point too often missed. Gov may claim to be reigning in Big Tech companies, but in practice, will ensure they dominate, and newer, smaller social networks, seach engines, etc, will be squashed

Later on I spoke in defence of journalistic freedom. I argued in defence of letting people report on demonstrations and why it is important - without threat of police arresting them on spurious grounds.

I argued against protest-related, suspicion-less Stop&Search (ie police could, with no suspicions, search you). If you object, that too is a criminal offence. I compared it to treatment of innocent people in Lockdown. Does Gov actually want the public to turn against the police?

End of VERY long debate on Retained EU law last night. Swathes of unelected peers - who cheered on imposition of EU laws onto UK parliament - now demanding parliamentary accountability. I'm sceptical, especially when it's claimed we need EU law to defend worker's/women's rights.
