Ouch:"in Scotland an entire political class has been captured by...a convenient lie. It frees them from having to do anything truly radical...it masks their own abject failures in achieving anything substantive for Scotland’s most marginalised communities whom they’ve abandoned"
RT @kmckenna63: Scotland's indolent political classes have eagerly participated in the lie that men can become women. But it's a convenient lie: my column in The Herald https://www.heralds…

I listened carefully to Lords repeating lurid headlines about unaccompanied children being kidnapped and trafficked from hotels. While 100s of these young people are missing, it is still unclear why or how. I suggested that it isn't good to repeat conjecture as fact.

Something in this - any opportunities that leaving the EU affords are frequently squandered by the Gov; too often this seems to be wilful.

Well said @CitySamuel: "Whatever the solution to the problems caused by children being online, the Online Safety Bill is not it...it has become a monster, posing a serious threat to our freedoms." Mind you, on demand that "Government needs to think again", it won't but it should!

Retained EU Law Bill is about to land in @UKHouseofLords. Gives those minority of Brexiteer peers plenty to grapple with re balance in terms of taking back control of UK laws. With some caveats, this explainer from @BBCRosAtkins, is a useful guide to various sides of the debates.

As and in news today, here's what I said in 2nd Reading of Gov's Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill in @UKHouseofLords earlier this week
RT @Fox_Claire: The gov's spineless surrender to backbench Tory NIMBYs has ripped the house-building heart out of its own Levelling Up Bill. Plus, the faux democracy of more devolution/mayors doesn't mean People Power - ULEZ, LTNs and 15-minute cities are often imposed despite public opposition.

Excellent approach to politics here from @KonstantinKisin: don't write off people who disagree with you; take them seriously & try to persaude them with the force of your argument. This is our approach at @acadofideas. Anything else is to lapse into a bitter, nihilistic fatalism
RT @KonstantinKisin: "We need to believe young people are persuadable."

Utterly ludicrous. already vehicle for far-reaching censorship. Tories trying to buy off some opponents by using controversy over small boats is unbelievably crass, even in an era of cynical opportunism. Mind you, it's easier to censor than control those borders
RT @davidleighx: "Under a further change to the bill, video footage that shows people crossing the Channel in small boats in a “positive light” will be added to a list of illegal content"…

Shame they forgot to mention this to Tory front bench in @UKHouseofLords as yesterday we spent about seven hours on 2nd Reading of their own Levelling Up Bill. Hopeless. Obsession with renaming things always misses point. If it's a vacuous idea, new sexy label/name won't save it.
