Can funding compromise academic research? People assume that the answer is yes - for example when corporates get involved. But what about when it's charities/NGOs or even politicians looking for evidence? Isn't that the same?...
A bit later on, I described why we need to positively promote #FreeSpeech on campus via a culture change. It's not enough to just pass legislation and hope for the best.

The next time I spoke I raised the pernicious problem of universities signing up to third-party organisations that lay down values which damage academic freedom and free speech (eg Stonewall or Advance HE's Race Equality Charter with its CRT version of race)... (1/2)

A bit of a rant having sat through hours of anti-Brexit speeches aimed at opposing the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill. So many self-righteous fork-tongued contributions.
All parties agree that environmental targets should be reached at all costs. But I reminded the government that some hard choices lie ahead in today's economic climate. Eg, why pay farmers not to produce food? How can we hope to have economic growth if biodiversity trumps all?
Excellent long view, and international context, explaining decline in serious leadership, elites estrangement from values etc. Must read.
