I was worried when the senior deputy speaker, discussing the tone of Lords' debates, asked us to avoid 'argumentative language'. I asked about a possible chilling effect, and a danger of sanitising scrutiny. His reply reassured me... a bit.

Discussion about the Leasehold Bill today was a start, but SO lame. The government is only abolishing Leasehold for houses - not flats - despite the fact that the vast majority of LH are flats! Their excuse is that it's too complex. Well, I gave them a simple solution.

Yesterday, in a question on so-called Safe Access Zones around abortion clinics, I pointed out that the police seem confused about intimidation (eg arresting people for silent prayer), while ignoring it elsewhere (eg anti-Semitism outside MP surgeries etc).
